The Sheriff arrests and transports people, while Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover creates the jail booking and release records. The official online product is the Pamunkey “Who’s In Jail” roster. Its title and fields make it a current-custody list, not a record of people who left today.
The roster can provide a starting point. A matching entry supports that the person was shown in PRJ custody at the time of the check. Ask for the date and time PRJ custody ended, the recorded authority or type, and any receiving agency that may be disclosed. Those fields distinguish release to the community from a VADOC, another-jail, federal, or immigration transfer.

A same-day inquiry works best when it follows the record from the last known custodian. Have the full name, date of birth, approximate booking date, inmate ID if known, and New Kent as the arresting locality ready. New Kent Custody Outcomes
“Released from PRJ” describes the end of one custodian’s control. It does not always mean freedom in the community. Bond, a court order, time served, or sentence expiration may result in community release if no other authority has a hold. A VADOC turnover, another locality’s warrant, a Deputy U.S. Marshal pickup, or an ICE detainer instead continues custody elsewhere.

Dates must also retain their labels. A booking date, court-order date, VINE alert time, and actual custody-end time describe different events. Record each source and its observation time rather than merging them into one “release date.”
New Kent Bond Release Checks
PRJ Records verifies charge and bond information and checks the required paperwork before discharge. A judge determines bond eligibility at arraignment. No fixed New Kent bond schedule was found, and a displayed amount on a roster charge line has no published data dictionary. It should not be treated as a promise that payment triggers immediate release.
Another case, warrant, or detainer may prevent community release even after bond conditions on one charge are met. Ask for the existing fields tied to the individual episode instead of asking staff to create a new 24-hour list.
New Kent Release App Limits
PRJ offers an official mobile app and official news channels. The app listing advertises jail information and “viewing inmates.” Research did not verify a recent-release tab, released-person archive, or individual mugshot advantage. The app appears to be another route to the same current feed.
The app is useful for a current roster check, but its listing does not turn it into proof of a New Kent County release within the last 24 hours.
Official social or news posts can supply context for a reported event. They are supplemental. A post is not a release log, and a photograph or announcement should not override the jail record, the receiving agency, or the entered court order.
