New Kent 72-Hour Release Finding

New Kent County operates no jail and publishes no three-day release list. Local detainees are normally booked at Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover. PRJ publishes a current “Who’s In Jail” roster, but research found no 24-hour, 48-hour, 72-hour, or archived release option on the jail site, live feed, or app. This gap matters. It should not be filled with an unofficial list made from roster snapshots.

A three-day window is a request interval, not an online roster feature. Ask PRJ Booking/Release at 804-365-6400 extension 3043 or Records at extension 3033 whether a named person’s custody ended between two exact dates and times. Then ask how the event was coded. “Processed out” can include bond, court order, sentence completion, transfer to another jurisdiction, or turnover to VADOC.

Build a New Kent Three-Day Check

Define the window before contacting an agency. “The last 72 hours” changes each hour, while “Friday at noon through Monday at noon” is clear and can be compared with a custody-end timestamp. Use stable identifiers so a common name, alias, or suffix does not produce a false match.

1. Write down the start and end of the interval, including dates and times.
2. Search the PRJ roster and note whether the person appears now. Save the inmate ID, booking time, arresting agency, and case clues.
3. Call Booking/Release or Records and ask if PRJ custody ended inside the interval.
4. Ask whether the record shows community release, another jail, VADOC turnover, federal pickup, or another disposition.
5. Check both New Kent criminal court levels for the order or sentence entry, then preserve any VINE event received during the period.
6. Request the existing release record when the answer must be documented or sources conflict.

New Kent Three-Day Record Fields

Because there is no official 72-hour list, the field inventory has two parts: what the current roster displays and what must be obtained from PRJ’s release record. This prevents a booking date from being mistaken for a release date.

Its lack of release time, release type, destination, and archive controls is why a requested record remains central to a three-day inquiry.

New Kent Weekend Release Windows

The wider interval helps when an event may have occurred outside normal public-office hours. Yet PRJ publishes no routine release hour, holiday posting schedule, family waiting site, or ordinary early-release rule. Public office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but custody processing can involve court orders and final checks that do not map neatly to that schedule.

PRJ’s annual report documents Friday-through-Sunday “weekender” sentences. Records staff track those days and credit served at other facilities so release occurs on the correct day and time. That practice does not create a general weekend release rule. It applies to the person’s sentence and calculation. Ask for the actual custody-end timestamp rather than estimating from a weekend label.

Holidays can make follow-up take longer, while a VINE message may arrive closer to the event. Preserve the alert. Then contact PRJ to reconcile whether it meant community release or transfer.

Confirm New Kent Release Outcomes

The strongest local proof is an official PRJ custody-history or release record showing when custody ended and how the event was classified, reconciled with any receiving-agency field. A New Kent court order is strong evidence of legal authority, but the clerk cannot prove the exact moment PRJ completed processing or whether another hold applied.

Note: A three-day interval catches more events, but it does not make roster absence stronger proof of community release.

New Kent Roster Retention Gaps

PRJ has not published how often the roster refreshes or how long an entry remains after status changes. It also lacks a historical status field. A person who appears at the start of the interval and disappears by the end may have left PRJ, but those observations cannot supply the time, reason, or destination.

Do not create a 72-hour list by subtracting one roster from another. That method can misclassify VADOC turnovers, transfers, federal handoffs, temporary data issues, and corrections. Use the comparison to frame a focused question to Records. Provide the observation times and ask for the actual custody-end field and disposition.

Request New Kent Three-Day Records

Send a narrow request to PRJ’s FOIA administrator at FOIA@pamunkeyjail.gov, PO Box 510, Hanover, VA 23069, or 804-365-6400 extension 3008. Identify the person by full name, birth date, approximate booking date, inmate ID or case number when known, and New Kent as the arresting locality. State the 72-hour period precisely.

Ask for the booking or intake sheet, custody history, custody-end date and time, release or transfer authority, receiving agency if releasable, and the release form or order held by PRJ. Request electronic copies, redaction of exempt content rather than full withholding, and an estimate before costs exceed a chosen cap. PRJ posts no fixed price. Virginia FOIA commonly provides five working days for the initial response path, subject to lawful extensions and exemptions.

If PRJ reports no matching episode, check aliases, identifiers, and dates. Older New Kent jail events before the July 2024 transition may require a Henrico County Jail East record. Current New Kent local custody should be checked at PRJ first.

Read New Kent Release Dates

Several dates may fall within one three-day window. Booking time records intake. A court disposition date marks legal action. A VINE timestamp reports a custody-system event. The actual release time marks when the custodian ended possession. A supervision start date may follow, and a receiving agency can begin a new custody episode without a gap.

Community release

PRJ custody ends with no other authority taking the person into confinement.

Transfer

One custodian ends possession while another begins or continues custody.

Detainer

A hold from another authority that may require a pickup.

Discharge

Completion of a custody term, which may coexist with a separate supervision duty.

Quote the record’s own term. Calling every jail exit “released home” erases the distinction a 72-hour lookup is meant to establish.

New Kent Historical Release Checks

The custodian can change with the date of the jail episode. New Kent Board records say all county inmates were to move from Henrico County Jail East to Pamunkey Regional Jail beginning July 1, 2024. A three-day interval involving a current booking belongs with PRJ. An older event before that transition may require a Henrico custody or release record instead.

This local change is another reason not to rely on a stale directory or an unlabeled search result. Confirm the booking date and jail before requesting records. The New Kent Sheriff can supply arrest or transport records it created, but it does not replace the jail custodian’s custody-end entry. Ask each office only for the portion of the record it owns.

Record a source and timestamp for every event in the three-day window. A court order may precede physical processing, a VINE notice may report a transfer, and a roster entry may lag. When sources conflict, PRJ’s custody history and receiving-agency field carry more weight than a snapshot. Preserve the conflict until the responsible office confirms the outcome.
