New Kent Parole Versus Probation
Parole and probation both allow a person to live in the community under rules, but they begin in different ways. Parole is conditional community custody granted to a legally eligible person by the Virginia Parole Board. Probation is imposed by a court and may replace part of a jail term or follow incarceration. Neither label means the person is still booked at Pamunkey Regional Jail. Neither, by itself, proves that all court duties have ended.
Virginia also has more than one probation track. VADOC Williamsburg District 34 handles state probation and parole for New Kent. Colonial Community Corrections handles court-ordered pretrial supervision, local probation, and related services. The order or signed release document should name the track. Calling one office about a case owned by the other can lead to an incorrect answer.
| Feature | Parole | Probation |
|---|---|---|
| Authority | Virginia Parole Board in eligible cases | Sentencing or local court |
| Local verification | VADOC locator and District 34 | District 34 or Colonial Community Corrections, based on the order |
| Custody meaning | Conditional community custody | Court supervision in the community |
| Ending record | Parole discharge or final agency record | Court or agency discharge |
- Discharge
- The formal end of a custody or supervision term.
- Absconder
- A person alleged to have stopped reporting or complying. It is not proof of a new conviction.
- Detainer
- A request by another authority to hold or receive a person.
Check New Kent Supervision Status
The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator is the first public check for active state supervision. Search with the first three letters of the first name and the full last name, or use a seven-digit DOC ID. Location, race, gender, and age range can narrow the result. The system is updated daily, but VADOC warns that its data can lag or contain errors. A district-office location means community supervision, not imprisonment.
A fully discharged person may no longer appear. In that case, use the signed Conditions of Probation, Conditions of Parole, Order of Release, court disposition, or a focused agency records request. The New Kent County released-inmate search and records path explains how jail, court, and VADOC documents fit together.
- Identify whether the case was local, state responsible, or parole eligible.
- Search the VADOC locator and compare the name, DOC ID, age, and listed office.
- Read the release or court order for the named supervising agency.
- Call District 34 for state supervision or CCC for an ordered local track.
- Request the existing discharge record when the public locator no longer retains the person.
Important: Absence from a current locator does not prove that supervision ended. A signed discharge or confirmation from the responsible office is stronger.
New Kent District 34 Records
Williamsburg District 34 is the direct VADOC office for New Kent state probation and parole. The official directory also lists Williamsburg, Poquoson, James City, York, Charles City, and Lanexa in its service area. That broad region is why the office name does not contain New Kent. Check the current VADOC facilities and offices directory before relying on an old staff name.

The office can clarify whether it is the assigned reporting district and how an active supervisee should contact staff. Public callers should not expect protected case details. For documentary proof, request the nonexempt correctional-status or discharge record from VADOC. A person may also be assigned elsewhere under an approved home plan, so a New Kent conviction does not guarantee a District 34 result.
The official District 34 directory image shows the office-finder route used for New Kent supervision. View the current source through the VADOC office directory.

The directory is the safer source for current contact details because staffing can change while the district number remains the same.
New Kent Local Probation Intake
Colonial Community Corrections is a distinct local route. It provides New Kent pretrial supervision, local probation, and transitional services for people referred by a court. Its intake rules say a referred person must contact the agency within three working days of court action or release from confinement. The person should call for an appointment and bring court documents, phone numbers for two references, and photo identification if available.

Weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This deadline comes from the official CCC intake instructions. It applies only when the court referred the person. A release from PRJ does not place everyone in CCC. The release order and court papers control.
The CCC intake page captures the local reporting route that is easy to confuse with VADOC supervision.

Keep the intake direction with the court paperwork so the local reporting date and state supervision status do not get merged.
New Kent Parole Decision Records
The Virginia Parole Board matters only in parole-eligible cases. Virginia generally ended discretionary parole for felonies committed on or after January 1, 1995, under Code § 53.1-165.1, but exceptions are detailed and date sensitive. The Board posts meeting dates, agendas, streams, and minutes through its public meetings page. Dates are posted as scheduled, not as a fixed annual calendar for each person.
Monthly decision PDFs and annual reports appear on the Parole Board reports page. A grant starts plan development and required notice. It does not prove that the person physically left a facility. A not-grant decision may state reasons and allow later review under the Board's rules. Physical release is confirmed by the final VADOC paperwork after date, warrant, detainer, court-order, and discipline checks.
Parole eligibility under § 53.1-151 varies by prior commitments and special case rules. A fraction or cap should never be used as a stand-alone release calculator. The person's offense date, sentence record, eligibility category, and final agency computation all matter.
New Kent Violations and Warrants
Supervision conditions can include reporting, travel limits, treatment, payment, or conduct terms set by the court or agency. The exact conditions belong to the signed order. A suspected violation can lead to an agency response, a court hearing, or a warrant, but an allegation does not establish a new conviction or a current jail booking.
No New Kent public absconder list was found in the official research. Verify a claimed warrant with the issuing court or the law-enforcement custodian. Confirm supervision with District 34 or CCC. If the person was booked again, check Pamunkey Regional Jail's current roster and ask Booking/Release about the new custody event. VINE may send jail custody changes, but it does not serve as a certified probation-status record.
Dates must stay distinct. A violation report date, warrant date, booking date, and revocation order date can describe separate steps. Quote the field and source rather than calling all of them a return to custody.
When New Kent Supervision Ends
Supervision ends through a formal discharge, expiration, or court and agency action authorized by the governing order. Release from incarceration is not the same event. A person can finish a jail or prison term and then begin probation, parole, or post-release supervision. Conversely, a locator disappearance may reflect full discharge, a transfer, a data change, or a record outside the tool's public scope.
For state supervision, seek the VADOC discharge or correctional-status record. For local probation, use the court disposition and CCC record tied to the referral. Preserve the exact end date and the authority that entered it. If sources conflict, compare their update times and ask the office that owns the record to correct the disputed field.
New Kent's split system rewards careful routing. PRJ confirms jail release, District 34 confirms state supervision, CCC confirms its court-ordered local cases, and the court supplies the legal order. Together, those records show whether custody ended, supervision continued, and a final discharge later closed the matter.
New Kent VINE Supervision Limits
Virginia's custody-notification systems should not be mistaken for a probation or parole register. Virginia Jail VINE covers people in local and regional jails, including PRJ. VADOC VINE is a separate channel for state-responsible custody, and its victim-notification enrollment has eligibility rules. Registration does not carry from the jail system into the state system. A local “released or transferred” alert can mark a move to VADOC rather than a return to the community.
For that reason, preserve the wording and time of a VINE alert, then check the receiving system. If the person appears at District 34 in the VADOC locator, the result describes active community supervision. If the person appears in a prison or local jail under VADOC authority, confinement continues. VINELink can help establish that a custody event occurred, but the signed release conditions and supervising-office record establish the legal status.
Virginia Jail VINE permits applicable public custody-alert registration by phone, text, email, or TTY. Telephone registration uses a PIN, and an unanswered alert may be retried until it is acknowledged or the documented retry period ends. These functions are useful for a future jail event. They do not replace District 34 or CCC when the question is whether a released New Kent person must report now.
