For New Kent County, Virginia Jail VINE covers people housed in local and regional jails, including Pamunkey Regional Jail. VADOC VINE addresses state corrections custody, and Sex Offender Registry VINE is a separate statutory channel. Enrollment in one does not carry into either of the others.
That division follows the custodian, not the arrest site. A person arrested by the New Kent Sheriff will normally enter PRJ and Jail VINE. A state-responsible sentence can shift the legal and notification path to VADOC even when the person remains in a regional jail for a time. Federal detainees are outside VINELink coverage and require BOP, court, or USMS sources.

Fields vary by agency and record. Treat them as custody clues, not as a universal release certificate. Virginia does not promise a permanent released-person result after notification ends.

A PRJ release record with the actual custody-end date, type, and destination is stronger proof of how the local episode ended.
Register New Kent Release Alerts
Anyone may register for applicable local and regional jail alerts. Offered methods may include text, phone, email, or TTY. Telephone enrollment uses a PIN to confirm receipt. Keep it private.

- Choose each offered notification method that will be monitored.
- Enter the phone number, email address, or destination accurately.
- Create and securely save a PIN for telephone alerts.
- Enter the PIN when an automated custody-change call arrives.
- Update the registration when contact information changes.

Confirm New Kent VINELink Events
A Jail VINE message can join “released or transferred” into one event. For a New Kent booking, call PRJ Booking/Release at 804-365-6400 extension 3043 or Records at extension 3033. Ask when custody ended, the recorded category, and whether another agency received the person. Save the alert’s exact text and time.
If PRJ reports a VADOC turnover, use the VADOC locator. If another jail received the person, contact it. A federal handoff requires BOP or the federal court and USMS paths. An immigration detainer requires ICE ODLS. VINELink does not replace these custodian-specific sources.
Virginia VINE Enrollment Handoffs
Virginia’s separate tracks matter in New Kent cases because local detainees are held in a regional jail and some later become state responsible. A local sentence under 12 months ordinarily remains in Jail VINE. At 12 months or more, VADOC may assume legal custody and calculate time even while the person is physically in jail.
Eligible victims should also register through VADOC Victim Services when a case crosses into state responsibility. Jail enrollment does not transfer. VADOC-registered victims may receive advance and final release notices, but protected enrollment is not a public opt-in service for everyone. Public status may still be checked in the VADOC locator.
Registry VINE is separate again. The Virginia Sex Offender Registry is limited to people legally required to register and cannot establish when someone left PRJ.

Official materials warn that notifications stop after release, so VINELink is not a permanent archive. If a released result is visible, record its exact label, identifier, facility, and observation time. Do not assume it will remain available.
A release result answers only within that source’s scope. Jail VINE can report the end of a PRJ event while VADOC or another jail begins custody. VADOC VINE concerns state corrections. Neither establishes the end of BOP or ICE custody. Lasting proof comes from the document made by the responsible custodian.
New Kent Custody Alert Terms
Read each event as a defined status, then verify the next custodian. Small wording differences can change the conclusion.

A court disposition may explain why release was authorized, but it does not show when jail processing finished. Pair it with the PRJ event record.
Match New Kent VINELink Identities
Identity checks matter before registering or acting on an alert. PRJ uses an inmate ID, VADOC uses a seven-digit DOC ID, BOP uses a federal register number, and ICE may use an A-number. Similar names do not link these systems. Compare a birth date, booking date, arresting agency, case number, and the facility shown whenever those facts are available.
Aliases, suffixes, and spelling changes can hide a valid match. Search reasonable name forms, but do not merge records merely because the names resemble each other. If VINELink and the PRJ roster disagree, note when each source was checked. The public roster and VADOC locator can update on different schedules, while a VINE notice may reflect a transition between them.
A saved notice should include the message text, delivery time, person identifier, and facility. Give those facts to PRJ Records when asking for confirmation. This makes the question specific and helps staff distinguish the event from an older New Kent booking.
After a New Kent Release Alert
Use the alert to begin a short evidence chain. Contact PRJ, confirm whether custody ended, and ask for the recorded destination. Next review the relevant New Kent court disposition for the authority behind bond, dismissal, time served, or another order. If custody transferred, move to the receiving system without describing the person as free.
When a lasting record is needed, request the custody history and release form from PRJ. Include the full name, date of birth, booking date, inmate ID, and New Kent arresting locality. Ask for electronic copies and for exempt content to be redacted while nonexempt release fields are produced. This record remains useful after a VINELink result disappears.

A New Kent court search can corroborate the legal cause for an event. General District Court handles misdemeanors and felony preliminary work, while Circuit Court handles felony trials. A bond order, dismissal, or time-served sentence may explain why release was allowed on one case. It still does not show the moment PRJ finished processing or rule out a different hold. When an alert points to state custody, search VADOC with the first three letters of the first name and the full last name, or the seven-digit DOC ID. Optional location, race, gender, and age filters can narrow results. A supervision-office result means the person may be out of prison but still supervised. A fully discharged person may disappear, so request the signed state release papers when a lasting answer is needed.
For federal custody, use the BOP locator by register number or name. Its “Released” label is limited to BOP custody and does not resolve another jurisdiction. ICE ODLS has a limited current or recent scope. Neither federal system enrolls through Virginia VINE.
